H+P Athlete of the Month: June, 2018

Here at H+P we are super excited to start doing a better job of honouring the people who help to make our club possible.  YES we are more than workouts and Coach Sean’s horrible puns and attempts at the worm!

One way we wanted to do that was to start giving out a H+P athlete of the month award.  And this athlete is not just chosen at random!  Our 2017 MVPs and 4 runners up  as voted by our members along with coach Sean and Gill anonymously vote on the athlete they feel best exemplifies:

-An amazing level of performance (which can mean from a pure performance standpoint OR personal improvement)

-Contribution to the club in a way that makes it better for all

-Actions that help to make our members feel good, stay motivated and continue to strive toward our goal of bringing athletes of all abilities together

On that note, the winner for June 2018 is…

JAN DE VISSER

June athlete of the month

Highlights for Jan in the last month (and a bit) include:

-Posting a massive PB of 1:28:00 (19:01 5K equivalent) at the Missy half after years of really not being a sub-20 athlete.  Not bad for a guy in his 50’s and who had to come back from serious cycling/car collision!

-Represented H+P at the world duathlon championships, placing 20th in his AG.

-Fixes H+P bikes and keeps our athletes riding fast for FREE.

-Led our Tuesday AM Zwift rides and our Wednesday PM rides for FREE.

Thanks for making our club better Jan!

There were also 2 athletes who were runners up in the voting but definitely deserve credit:

Robyn Collins

-Posted some amazing performances including becoming the first H+P athlete to win 2 A-standards when she placed 3rd OA in the Missy Half.

-She won multiple races overall including the Rotary 5K, Baden 5K and the Waterloo 5K.

-She is throwing down some major mileage and workouts as of late (multiple 100K+ weeks), inspiring many H+Pers that it’s never too late to work hard to be better!

Michele Studhalter

-Michele has had her best athlete month of her life which has really helped to inspire H+Pers.

-As an athlete was who was always in the 23-24min 5K range, she has really buckled down and taken her performances to the next level.

-Her two major highlights include: winning her AG at the Welland long course provinicial championships followed a few weeks later by winning her AG at the very competitive Muskoka 70.3 triathlon

Thanks all for helping to bring us together, inspire us and make us better!
