H+P does Chicago!

H+P had a great time tackling the Chicago Marathon as a team!  There were some unbelievable performances, including numerous PBs and even a few club records!  Here’s a breakdown of how we did:

Check out our team summary on our rankings page.

Coach Sean came in with a PB time of 2:46:55, and was the 7th Canadian to cross the line.

Dave Rutherford came in with a MASSIVE new PB of 2:57:34!  This guy has been in sub-3 hour shape many times before but the stars just hadn’t aligned…until now!  This is a significant new masters club record, and it is also the 4th fastest H+P marathon PB ever (just 9s behind Nick Burt from earlier this year). Check out the new marathon PB rankings HERE.

Coach Gill was in next for the team with a massive new PB of 3:07:46!  This brought her in as the 6th Canadian woman to cross the line, the 2nd fastest H+P women’s PB ever (27s off Andrea’s record from last year!), and the 11th fastest H+P PB overall!

Val Hobson, battling a hip injury, still managed to post an unbelievable PB of 3:09:39!  This brought her in 4th in her AG in an unbelievably competitive field, and also demolished her own club masters record.  She also now holds the 3rd fastest women’s PB in H+P history.  Also of note, this race correlated with Val’s best 5K equivalent out of any race..ever!

Helen Broom was in next for the team with an outstanding new 3:43 PB.  This is especially impressive given that 4 months ago she was barely running due to a hamstring injury.  She built slowly and smartly to conquer this challenge and post her fastest marathon ever!

Tracy Urquhart was in next as she toughed out a very strong 3:45:00.  While she has run faster in the past, this was a huge success considering she fell on her knee which resulted in massive amounts of inflammation 1 week before race day.  Way to heal like a champ and tough it out Tracy!

Brian was in next for the team with a strong 3:46, battling hard through some injury issues to come in with a solid time, but he’s still hungry for more!

Howie was in next with a solid 3:47- just 20s off his PB.  If you look closely, you may notice a beer in his left hand.  Yes, this near-PB run also included a break to stop, walk backwards, and to grab a cold one from one of this many fans.

Kristin Marks ran a very strong 3:49 in her first marathon.  This is especially impressive since her PB in the half when she joined H+P was 2:02!  She crushed that time by an average of 6.5 minutes…twice in row!

Manny, on a reduced training plan, still impressed with a great 4:03 finish!

Coming off her 50K Toad performance from last week, Debbie still managed to run a solid 4:50.

Juan, using this race as one final marathon and victory lap of his favourite race, came in with a final time 5:21!

Holger was battling a serious calf injury for the month of September.  He tried to run, things didn’t feel good, and made the smart decision to drop out!

Finally, a HUGE thanks for Cari for coming out just to support and cheer the team on!  Her help was invaluable on and off the course.  Also a huge thanks to all the family members who came along to support our crew.

And, one last thanks to the Jays for ending things by sweeping the Texas Rangers.  This essentially made it the perfect day.
