Stage 1: Half Marathon
Name: Michelle Lennox
Age: 48
Proud PBs: 2013 Chicago Marathon BQ
How do you keep yourself psychologically primed to keep pushing when at the end of a race and hurting? I usually have some mantra I repeat throughout the race. In Chicago, I kept saying to myself “This is MY day”.
Stage 2: 15km TT
Name: Heidi Engelhardt
Age: 57
Proud PBs: For now Oktoberfest 10k 53.52, probably unrealistic to hope my fave PB is still to come.
How do you keep yourself psychologically primed to keep pushing when at the end of a race and hurting? Hmm, haven’t nailed this yet. My mantra has been the quicker I move my a$$ the sooner it will be over. For my first ENDURrun relay, I don’t want to let down the team!
Stage 3: Bechtel 30km
Name: Howie O’Krafka
Age: 50
Proud PBs: 2015 Endurrun Ultimate
How do you keep yourself psychologically primed to keep pushing when at the end of a race and hurting? I don’t! I crash, stop for a beer etc…but when I do figure out the psychological part I’ll be golden
Stage 4: 10-mile Wilmot
Name: Cari Rastas Howard
Age: 40
Proud PBs: 2015 ENDURrun 15 km
How do you keep yourself psychologically primed to keep pushing when at the end of a race and hurting? I remind myself that if I can have 2 babies without drugs, I can get through a race. (And just like having kids, you forget the pain of racing and want more!)
Stage 5: Chicopee 25.6km Alpine
Name: Coffee Umanetz
Age: 40 – First year running as a Master!
Proud PBs: Sulphur Springs 50 mile, 9 hours 49 min
How do you keep yourself psychologically primed to keep pushing when at the end of a race and hurting? Remember just how temporary the pain is. I was grunting “ow” with every downhill step of the last 20k at Sulphur but a mere week later there wasn’t even mild soreness and I was relatively flying at the MEC “almost” 5k.
Stage 6: 10km TT
Name: Jaime Lynn Reichle
Age: 40
Proud PBs: The first long distance race I trained for, 25K Run for the Toad
How do you keep yourself psychologically primed to keep pushing when at the end of a race and hurting? It’s all in your head….you GOT this!!
Stage 7: Marathon
Name: Andrew Heij
Age: 36
Proud PBs: Sulphur Springs 50 Mile – 2nd overall 7:53:09
How do you keep yourself psychologically primed to keep pushing when at the end of a race and hurting? Don’t focus on the distance ahead, just what you’ve already completed.
