2017 ENDURrun Stage 6 – 10k TT

With the grueling, slow hills of Chicopee in the review mirror, 24 hours later, ENDURrun threw a stage at the complete opposite end of the spectrum at us: a flat 10K TT.   This stage offered an opportunity for our runners to showcase their speed, and for Ultimates to chisel away their DOMs and open up their strides. In the relay, Jonathan Fugelsang posted a massive 37:07 B-Standard to launch the Masters men BACK into the lead once again over the Millenials– what a race this has been! Vicki ran a strong 41:45 C standard, losing only a few seconds to remain in Gold, while Nick crushed a 36:38, building on his 2nd OA once again. H+P still holds the top 4 teams and 4 runners in the top 10 OA!

RELAY

As we mentioned, the battle between the Masters Men and Millennials for the top spot and prize money has really been heating up. Jon Fuelsang’s 37:03 PB put a 7:41 gap into Lucas Shwed who was standing in for James. The Masters men are now 6:00 ahead going into the marathon where Nick will face-off against Holger! The masers men are also now ~59 minutes ahead of record pace with only the marathon to go!

The In-Betweeners were represented well by Joel, who was racing for the fist time in years. His 41:27 solidified their place in 3rd OA, and likely in a spot where they can’t be caught OR do any catching.

The women’s A team had a very strong performance from Emily Dodge! The 14 year old was a last-minute sub for H+P record holder Erin McClure. She posted a better-than-expected 43:05, and kept the women within 1:42 of their event record from 2016! The women still sit 4th OA with a 13 minute lead over 5th.

The Mixed team battle is also coming down to the wire! These two teams sit 7th and 8th OA and are separated by 34 minutes. Can Thaddeus, who has been looking strong all week, close that gap in Alex Popalis as she makes her marathon debut? Robyn of the Masters Women’s squad ran an amazing CLUB RECORD and PB of 40:25. They now sit 15 minutes back of Mixed-2 with Val Hobson up in the marathon. It really is anybody’s game between these three teams going into that final stage.

Heather Heij was a last minute stand-in for the Funactics-2, while Melanie Lynch ran an awesome new PB of 49:22 for the Funatics-1. Funatics-2 now have a 54 minute deficit with Andrew Heij ready to chase down Will Spaezel to the best of his ability on the final stage! With both of their PBs being over 1 hours apart (3:27 vs. 4:44), it’s still anybody’s game in the Funactics battle!

ULTIMATES

Nick was in first for H+P with the second fastest time of the day- 36:38. His place in 2nd OA seems to be locked down now, and his lead over 2012 Dave has now grown to 13 minutes!

On the women’s side of the podium, Vicki lost a few seconds to the 2nd OA female, but still ran an outstanding PB of 41:15 to hold her spot in Gold. Val Hobson ran a stellar 42:15 to build on her place in 3rd OA and once again put more time (1:22) between her event PB from 2015.

Thaddeus ran a very strong 41:41 to hold 6th OA and to build on his lead over 2015 Thaddeus (now at 37:33). The battle isn’t over for him though- there are 3 runners within 10 minutes, and 42.2k of racing to go!

Andrew ran a solid 55 minute 10K, and still solidly sits in 24th OA! Will continues to battle hard with his 2013 self. He ran a very strong 56s slower than his ’13 10K, and still holds a 7:03 lead going into the marathon- a distance that he PB’ed in 2013. CAN Will hold this gap to achieve an ENDURrun event PB, and CAN he hold his Funatics-1 team ahead of Andrew and the Funactics-2

Up next…Stage 7…42.2K of pain and glory…the marathon!
