2016 Waterloo Classic: #JJvsNK

H+P has had a number of great battles within their squad in the past!  Who could forget the epic #MikeVsDave challenge at the 2014 Classic?  Or, what about the #SeanVsGill battle where bitter rivals Sean and Gill ruthlessly tried to crush each other along with their respective teams?

These battles were all fun, but we are EXTREMELY excited to announce a next-level team challenge.  Our previous challenges seem like nothing compared to what we have in store for the 2016 Waterloo Classic:

#JJvsNK

THE SET UP:

Captains Jon Krys and Jordan Schmidt (JJ) will be captaining and facing off against Kristin Marks and Nick Burt.  Hence the #JJvsNK.  These runners are VERY close in the rankings, and are VERY similar in current fitness.

Jon and Kristin are competing 5K team captains, while Jordan and Nick are competing 10K captains.

H+P-ers will be divided up among each team to make things as equal as possible- this will be a battle down to the second (average time matters, not place)!  These final teams will be decided and announced by Sunday at 8:30pm.  You must be registered by then to be assigned to a team!

UPDATE: THE ROSTERS ARE NOW COMPLETE!

5 runners will count for each team in the 5K, 6 runners will count for each team in the 10K (this will give each team at least one spare).

How will we track the results?  With the stats page of course! Check out our new challenges section HERE.  Thanks Sam!

SCORING:

How do you know if you win?  Here’s how it goes:

If one team beats another (i.e. Nick’s 10K team beats Jordan’s 10K team), 1 point is awarded.

If one captain beats another captain (i.e. Kristin beats Jon), 1.51 points is awarded (yes 1.51).

If the combined 5K average time + the combined 10K average (NOT converted to a 5K time) beats the combined time of the other team (i.e. Nick’s 10K team average at a 5K equiv + Kristin’s 5K team average is faster than team JJ), 3 points is awarded!

A perfect score would be 8.02!

With this type of scoring, there are MANY different possibilities, and many different ways to win as Nick has shown here:

Don’t understand the scoring?  Let’s try an example!

  • Jordan beats Nick in a sprint finish (1.51 points for team JJ)
  • Jon beats Kristin (1.51 points for team JJ)
  • Team Nick beats team Jordan by 10s average/runner (1 point for team NK)
  • Team Jon beats team Kristin by a mere 1s average/runner (1point for team JJ)
  • Based on this, the combined time for Team NK would be faster than team JJ (3 points for team NK)

Final score: 4.02- 4, Team JJ get’s the win!

So what’s going to happen?  Which captains will win? Which teams will win?  Who will walk away with the overall #JJvsNK title?  And who will get to do THIS?

Find out next week at the 2016 #WaterlooClassic!
