Trackfest 2022

After a 3 year hiatus….TRACKFEST WAS BACK!

Despite it being the long weekend and so many other races going on, this was still our largest and fastest event ever! Here’s a breakdown of how things went.

PHOTS from Run Waterloo (more will be added in the coming weeks)

5000m

5K Results

In the 5K, Jon Redfern took the W on the men’s side with a time of 16:42, while Emily Driedger won the women’s side in 19:55.

Group leader Tristan Boutilier was our top masters athlete with a great new PB of 17:15.  The masters competition was deep on a whole with Ian Reid going 17:55 for second, and a string of masters athletes (Bruce, Steve and Dem) coming in between 19:19 and 19:34.

There were 18 athletes who broke 20, and a number of PBs and fun back-and-forth battles in this one- congrats to all who got it done!

3000m

3000m Results

In the 3000m, Finnian won with a great time of 9:46, while Megan was the top woman in 10:57.

This race was extra special as it was Josh Lucrezi’s first official race back after a 2 year battle with cancer including ~1 year of being bedridden- welcome back Josh!!

Mile

Results.

After only ~ a 30minute rest, Fin won again in the mile with a great time of 4:53. Ashley Hosker was our top female in this one.

800m

Results

In the 800m, Cole Hannam, coming off an epic 1:50 personal best, ran solo to win comfortably in 2:09. Emma Segato won the women’s race with Trevor Bauman coming in as our top masters runner.

400m Walking Race

Results

The women absolutely dominated this one going 1-2 overall.  Sam Farrow became the first woman ever to win a H+P event overall with her 2:36 clocking with Lumi not too far behind in 2:45.  Josh was the top male in 2:51.

Congrats to Nash, Addy and Sonia (all under 12 months of age) in completing their first races ever!

Elimination Mile

Full results with laps

This one was the absolute HIGHLIGHT of the event!  We had our first ever women’s-only heat where Emily Driedger took the W with Alyssa and Emma going 2-3.

On the men’s side, Cole stayed buried in the front of the pack, only to unleash a 60-flat final 400 to win this year’s event.  Fin came in second, while Bobby was 3rd.  The battle for 4th was an intense and entertaining one with a mere 4s separating 4th through 8th (Jon, Graham, Greg, Greg, Yan).

Supporters

This event is so cheap in large part because of the crew that has come together to make this happen.  The goal is to break even on it…and without these awesome local people/organizations, we wouldn’t have been able to make things this fun- so THANK YOU!

Also – give a massive thanks to Jeremy Haak when you see him!  On top of all he does for our cycling TTs, he was a crucial member of the team that made this event happen.

Finally- shout out to Terry Edwards for taking the time out of his busy schedule to live-social the event!

That’s it for 2022, see you next year!
