H+P Athlete of the Month: January 2019

Here at H+P we are super excited to start doing a better job of honouring the people who help to make our club possible.

One way we wanted to do that was to start giving out a H+P athlete of the month award. And this athlete is not just chosen at random! Our 2018 MVPs and 4 runners up as voted by our members along with coach Sean and Gill anonymously vote on the athlete they feel best exemplifies:

-An amazing level of performance (which can mean from a pure performance standpoint OR personal improvement)

-Contribution to the club in a way that makes it better for all

-Actions that help to make our members feel good, stay motivated and continue to strive toward our goal of bringing athletes of all abilities together

On that note, the winner for Jan. 2019 is…

GREG CARTMELL

This month went to one of our fastest marathoners- Greg Cartmell!  Coming back from injury, Greg through down a winning performance at the Bermuda marathon.  The time was almost 10 minutes off of his PB, but given the wind, hills and solo running he had to endure, this was an extremely strong performance.

That aside, Greg is an outstanding teammate!  Over the years he has proven to be beyond humble, hardworking, positive and a great training partner.  Congrats on a great month Greg!

Runners up this month were Reza and James!

James, who recently moved to Ottawa, still continues to be a great teammate when he’s home and on Strava!  On top of that, his hard work and dedication to improvement continues to inspire our squad.  When he joined, he couldn’t break 40 minutes for 10K.  Now, this past month, he ran a 1:25 half Disney, well done!

Reza continues inspire with his epic mileage through one of the most brutal months of weather we’ve seen!  Check out his training log HERE– need we say more?  Thanks for helping us all question our true limits!

Thanks to these guys for helping to make our club what it is.  Onwards to February!
